Friends of Coal spokesman and professional angler Jeremy Starks is preparing for a second meeting with West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection Cabinet Secretary Stephanie Timmermeyer and Division of Natural Resources Director Frank Jezioro. Jeremy recently met with Timmermeyer, Jezioro and Gov. Joe Manchin to discuss ways the state can more effectively make use of reclaimed mine land. Timmermeyer is gathering appropriate data for a second meeting.

At the initial meeting, Manchin had also asked Jeremy to help promote clean water programs around the state. The effort would be an extension of the governor’s Rehabilitation Environmental Action Plan (REAP).  REAP is a program designed to combine elements of the DEP and DNR into a more effective and streamlined system for the direction of environmental remediation programs.

Jeremy also met recently with Charleston Parks and Recreation officials to discuss the possible construction of additional access ramps to the Kanawha River.
Jeremy also is preparing the 2008 edition of the Friends of Coal boat and truck. He will travel much of the country with this boat as he competes on the nationwide ESPN BASS Elite Series tour. Jeremy finished last season strong and is expecting a terrific 2008 campaign. The first tournament is in March.
The Ladies Auxiliary continues to grow, adding over 30 members to its roster last month. During December the members donated over $2,000 which was in turn donated to the Burlington House, a foster care center, in the name of the Friends of Coal Ladies Auxiliary. This money was used to insure that each child would have new boots, haircuts and toiletries for Christmas.

The ladies are planning a golf tournament for June 6 at Glade Springs Resort, please keep the date in mind. They plan to have a first class affair that you won’t want to miss.
