Coal Production

According to the Energy Information Agency (EIA), metallurgical coal exports for the month of January (08) were up by nearly 29% while steam coal exports were about even with January ’07.  The two markets combined for more than 4.8 million tons of export during the month.  At the same time, imported coal decreased by more than 16%, with 2.38 million tons being imported during January ’08.  West Virginia production for the 52-week period ending 3/22/08 was just slightly below (less than 1%) the ’07 totals for the same period.
