ATTENTION: URGENT ACTION NEEDED

The Transportation and Infrastructure Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives last week passed out of Committee by a recorded vote of 35-20 the “Clean Water Cooperative Federalism Act of 2011” (H.R. 2018).

HR 2018 is a bipartisan bill that would rein in the Obama EPA. It would bring an end to the agency’s destructive abuse of authority and restore the balance needed to get America working again. The bill has major implications for the Friends of Coal and the 63,000 West Virginia families whose livelihoods depend on mining coal. The bill appears to be poised for floor action before the full House next Wednesday or Thursday and its passage is expected. Introduced by Congressman Rahall (D-WV), HR 2018 places appropriate restraint on EPA’s authority to regulate State implemented water quality standards.

Once passed by the House, H.R. 2018 may be taken up for immediate consideration by the Senate in order to bypass Committee assignment and hostage. Senator Manchin and several of his colleagues are preparing to guide the legislation accordingly.

We are asking the Friends of Coal to write a letter thanking Congressman Rahall, Congresswoman Shelley Capito, Congressman McKinley, the bill’s co-sponsors and all who voted for this vital piece of legislation.  We are also asking you to send a letter supporting HR 2018 and to the key committees and to West Virginia Senators Jay Rockefeller and Joe Manchin.
