CHARLESTON - State and national leaders, have been joining with energy experts and regulatory officials in addressing representatives of the state's coal industry during the 39th annual West Virginia Coal Association Mining Symposium. The 2012 Symposium concludes Friday at the Charleston Civic Center.
Friday's session features Senator Manchin discussing his outlook for the on going challenges with EPA's permitting process. West Virginia Coal companies will be recognized for their Environmental Restoration Awards today.
The Symposium has been providing industry officials, government leaders and regulatory officials a chance to come together and discuss current energy and economic trends, mine safety, health and environmental issues. In addition to the information sessions, industry members are recognized for their safety and environmental efforts. There are critical policies and regulatory issues facing the industry that must be addressed to better position the industry for the future.
Industry safety experts have been displaying the latest devices that will help locating and assisting miners during emergencies. The West Virginia Coal industry has been a leader in developing the safety communication technology, which many feel will help drastically during future industry crisis. The communication systems would've been extremely helpful during recent mine accidents.
