WVCA & FOC Social Media Effort Moving Forward

The West Virginia Coal Association, the Friends of Coal and several other coal industry groups continue to expand their social media presence. Our efforts so far, without the use of paid web advertising, have been very successful. We have added another Friends of Coal state page for North Carolina that has been well-received.

As it stands, Friends of Coal – West Virginia continues to grow. It is up to approximately 3,000 likes and reaches an average of about 40,000 each week.  Friends of Coal – Virginia has seen phenomenal growth over the past week and is now up to 3,000 likes and an average reach of about 65,000 per week.  Our newest state page – Friends of Coal- North Carolina – is already up to 1000 likes in less than a week and is reaching an average of 15,000 each week. Friends of Coal Ohio and Friends of Coal Pennsylvania are slower growing, with both pages seeing about 250 likes and reaching approximately 20,000 people per week combined.
Meanwhile our affiliated pages for the Citizens for Coal and Logan Coal Vendors Association are thriving. Citizens for Coal has approximately 1,800 likes and has an average weekly reach of around 35,000 while the Coal Vendors Association page has about 700 likes and an average reach of about 10,000.

We have also begun to build additional links to groups such as By the People and For the People, a pro-coal activist group centered in northcentral West Virginia that has approximately 7,000 likes and an average reach of about 40,000, and the Virginia-based Coal Miners Against Obama with approximately 2,000 likes and an average reach of about 25,000, and Friend of Coal Wyoming, which has taken the role as a “western” voice of our organization with some 13,000 likes and an average reach of more than 100,000 people.

Altogether, we have now grown our network to include an approximate weekly reach approaching 1 million people across the country.
