WV Business Groups United in Support of Gov. Tomblin’s Plan to Transform WV’s Education System for the Betterment of Our Children

Four statewide West Virginia business and economic development related organizations – representing a majority of the employer community in the state – today announced their support for Governor Earl Ray Tomblin’s plan to transform the state’s education system.

Representatives of the four organizations offered the following joint statement:

“The West Virginia Business Roundtable, West Virginia Chamber of Commerce, Vision Shared and the West Virginia Business & Industry Council all recognize the immediate need to transform how we educate children in the Mountain State. Our organizations are united in support of the measures Governor Tomblin outlined in his State of the State Address.

The recent audit of the state's public education system confirms what many have been saying for years -- we must create an educational system better designed to meet the needs of students and prepare them for post-secondary education and careers.

Our organizations and the thousands of West Virginians they represent will actively work with the Governor and the Legislature to see these measures passed into law.

A solid educational foundation is a critical link between poverty and prosperity. We owe West Virginia's children a brighter tomorrow. And tomorrow starts today.”
