As part of an increasing focus on the northern and eastern panhandles of West Virginia, The Friends of Coal will team up with Consol Energy and Cabela’s or Friends of Coal “Miner Appreciation” Days at the Wheeling store on June 26-29.
The event will be part of their “Hometown Heroes” promotion with employee discounts extended to Friends of Coal. If you are an avid outdoorsman, mark June 26-29 on your calendar to join Friends of Coal in Wheeling.
The four-day event will feature a concert by Chris Higbee, live remotes by local media outlets, raffles for door prizes and many other activities.
The event is part of Cabela’s “Hometown Heroes” celebration, which raises money for Boatsy’s Boxes, an organization that sends gift baskets to our soldiers stationed around the world.
Friends of Coal who come to Cabela’s Wheeling location that weekend will also get a discount on their purchases.
The Cabela’s “Miner Appreciation Days” celebration is just one component of Friends of Coal’s effort to increase its presence in the northern and eastern panhandles of West Virginia as well as the Morgantown and North-central parts of the state.
Other events scheduled or in the process of being scheduled include the National Hunting and Fishing Days Event at the Stonewall Resort in late-September, as well as several bass fishing tournament sponsorships on the Monongahela and Ohio Rivers.
In addition, Friends of Coal, the West Virginia Coal Association and West Liberty University announced the creation of an Energy Institute at the university to focus on energy-related issues.
The Friends of Coal are continuing to add additional events in the northern part of the state and more will be announced shortly.
The organization, however, is not forgetting about its home base of the southern West Virginia coalfields.
Friends of Coal will again be sponsoring the annual Friends of Coal Auto Fair at the YMCA Soccer Complex in Beckley June 19-21 - an event that always draws almost 100,000 people to the area.
In addition, we will be taking part in the Rocketboys Festival Oct. 3 at Tamarack in Beckley.
