Cabela's Honors "Hometown Heroes" on June 26-29 with the Cabela's "Star Spangled Banner Celebration"

Event to thank those who protect and power America

Cabela’s, Wheeling, West Virginia (June 18, 2013) – Cabela’s stores nationwide will honor the contributions of those who serve our country and communities.  Cabela’s in Wheeling, West Virginia will also pay tribute to the men and women who work in the coal, natural gas and oil industry by offering employee pricing to all veterans, active duty military and reserves, law enforcement, firefighters, EMS personnel, and Coal and Energy workers beginning Wednesday, June 26 through Saturday, June 29th.  The Hometown Heroes event at Wheeling Cabela’s recognizes the service and sacrifice of those who protect and power America.

“Cabela’s values the contributions of our nation’s military and service personnel,” said Cabela’s Chief Executive Officer Tommy Millner.  “Making them honorary employees, and extending our employee discount to them as we prepare to celebrate Independence Day, is our way of saying thank you for keeping us safe.”

To participate in the Hometown Heroes event, veterans, active duty military, reserves, law enforcement, fire and EMS personnel, and energy workers should present their service or company ID or Friends of Coal Card at check out at the Wheeling Cabela’s Cabela’s store.  Upon doing so, they will receive Cabela’s employee discount on virtually everything in the store.  Some restrictions apply; see store for complete details.

The Wheeling Cabela’s store is now in its third year of this event now called The Star Spangled Banner Celebration.  The name is partly derived from the huge twenty-five by 40 foot American Flag flown over the entrance drive during the ceremonies from the 75 foot ladder bridge created by the Wheeling and Triadelphia fire departments ladder trucks.

The West Virginia Coal Association, “Friends of Coal” will present retired West Virginia University Mountaineers Football Coach Don Nehlen in a special appearance at Cabela’s on Friday, June 28thfrom 12 Noon-2PM.  Coach Nehlen will be meeting friends and fans and signing autographs.

The celebration culminates on Saturday, June 29th beginning at 10:00 A.M. with tributes to Veterans and active duty military, Boatsie’s Boxes, the nationally known organization of volunteers, home based in Wheeling, who collect and distribute needed personal supplies to our military troops in theatres of war, a solemn flag ceremony with escort and flag line by the Patriot Guard Motorcycle Riders.  Bag Piper, Betsy Bethel McFarland will offer patriotic and solemn bag pipe music during the ceremony.  A live concert with The Chris Higbee Band will kick off the high energy country rock concert at 12:00 Noon on Saturday outside the Cabela’s Store.
