Lynn Smith, Secretary-Treasurer for the Kanawha Valley Mining Institute, as well as a Coal River Energy full-time employee, was awarded the honor of being inducted into the Kanawha Valley Mining Institute’s Hall of Fame (the first woman to be given this honor).
Lynn brought to the Institute her remarkable organizational skills, and the ability and determination to get things done in an efficient manner. Lynn has been the key in keeping the KVMI focused on its mission of providing a forum for communication and education among industry personnel, networking among all facets of the coal industry, supporting education of our youth by providing scholarship opportunities, and putting the KVMI on sound financial footing to carry on its mission. During her tenure, the KVMI has awarded $81,000 in Charles W. Bowling Scholarships, and has established a $100,000 perpetually Endowed Scholarship Fund with the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation for the purpose of awarding a KVMI four-year scholarship to eligible high school students. Lynn has worked in the coal industry for a number of years, initially with Workman Development, and now with her current company, Coal River Energy.
We congratulate Lynn on this well-deserved honor, and thank her family and employer, Jim Bunn, Jr., for sharing her time, talents and services with the KVMI.
