According to the Energy Information Administration's (EIA) weekly production report, weekly coal production for the week ending June 7 total 18.6 million tons, which is a 3 percent drop from last week’s total and 1.4 percent higher than the same week in 2013.
Year-to-date coal production nationwide totaled 426.4 million tons, which is .2 percent lower than the same period for 2013.
In West Virginia, coal production for the week ending June 7, stood at 2.33 million tons, which is approximately 20,000 tons more than the previous week and 30,000 tons more than the comparable week in 2013.
Year-to-date coal production in West Virginia stands at 51.9 million tons, compared to 52.2 million tons in 2013, which equates to a 0.6 percent drop year-over-year.
In terms of the entire Appalachian Region, coal production for the week stands at 5.40 million tons, which is up from 5.36 million tons for the previous week and up from 5.37 for the same week in 2013.
