According to the National Mining Association’s Weekly Statistical Summary ending October 18, 2008 West Virginia production has taken a 3.9% jump over last year’s production for the same time period. Ending the week of October 18, 2008 with 128,879,000 tons produced – in 2007, the same time period produced 124,039,000 tons. National totals show a 1.5% increase, with 929,782,000 tons mined in 2008, so far, and 916,458,000 tons mined for the same time frame in 2007.
