WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS – The West Virginia State Chamber of Commerce has elected former two-time West Virginia Coal Association Chairman Andrew Jordon as its new board chairman for the 2015-2017 term. The Chamber announced the selection at its annual Business Summit held earlier this week at the Greenbrier.
The three-day meeting included the state’s largest gathering of business, education and policy leaders.
In addition to the election of Jordon, Chamber members heard from state leaders such as Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, West Virginia’s full Congressional delegation , along with former Vice President Dick Cheney and his daughter, as well as WV State Senate President and Lieutenant Governor Bill Cole and Speaker of the WV House of Delegates Tim Armstead. Topics included education, job creation, workforce, energy, intellectual property issues and accomplishments of the 2015 Legislative Session.
West Virginia Coal Association President Bill Raney was part of panel, along with WVCA Board member Kevin Craig of NRP, that addressed the current status of the coal and natural gas industries in the state. The panel responded to questions and discussed possible scenarios and strategies for addressing the challenges facing today’s operations in West Virginia and what sort of assistance needs to be provided to enhance the competitiveness of our coal in today’s every-restricting market. There was considerable discussion of actions that are needed to “slow” or “stop” the continuing regulatory assault by the Obama Administration.
