Developers of a proposed
coal-gasification plant northeast of Taylorville today completed the purchase of
164 acres, or about half the land that will be needed for the estimated $2.1
billion project.
State Journal-Register (Springfield, IL): November 11, 2008- TAYLORVILLE, IL: Developers of a proposed coal-gasification plant northeast of Taylorville today completed the purchase of 164 acres, or about half the land that will be needed for the estimated $2.1 billion project.
Executives at Tensaka Inc. previously confirmed plans to purchase property for the Taylorville Energy Center, and company executives said today they expect to complete the purchase of another 165-acre tract in early December.
“This initial land acquisition is a decisive step toward construction of the Taylorville Energy Center, Bart Ford, vice president of business development, said in a statement. The Nebraska-based energy development company is a key partner in the Taylorville project.
Project supporters also are expecting a vote in the Illinois Senate veto session this week on legislation that would allow design work to begin by committing the plant to capturing and storing at least 50 percent of carbon dioxide emissions linked to global warming.
Ford earlier said if the legislation is approved, it would probably take at least a year to begin construction of the power plant and about four years to complete the project.
