Starks Has Career Best Start to Bassmasters Season Opener on Lake Amistad

West Virginia professional angler Jeremy Starks had his personal best start to a tournament season yet when he finished 37th out of 100 at this past weekend’s Battle on the Border on Lake Amistad in Del Rio, Texas – the first event on the 2009 Bassmasters Elite Series Tour.

“While I was gunning to win the tournament, I’m absolutely thrilled to have finished where I did given my past performances on Lake Amistad and in season opening tournaments,” Starks said. Starks, who had never made the cut from 100 to 50 anglers on day two at Lake Amistad in the past, did so this year.  He said the weather conditions during the tournament were brutal.  “On day one, the temperature made it to a high of about 38 degrees and on day two it rose to 41 degrees with a lot of rain.”

As an example of the difficulty of the conditions, the eventual winner of the tournament was behind Starks going into day three of the tournament.  He was able to find several ten pounders to help propel him to the win.

“I can tell you, I received many, many positive compliments on my new boat and truck wrap,” Starks said.  “I also received a lot of questions about West Virginia and the coal industry, which gave me the opportunity to talk about two of my favorite subjects!”

Starks now heads to Lake Dardanelle in Russellville, Arkansas for the March 26-29 Diamond Drive event.  Fans can follow Jeremy’s progress “live” at each event online by visiting www.espn.com and clicking on the “Bassmaster” link.
