Massey presents environmental awards

Massey Energy Company honored the winner of its third annual Green Miner Award and related Best of Class winners for calendar year 2006 at an awards banquet on the evening of Wednesday, June 20. The Green Miner Award is awarded to the Massey group with the best environmental compliance.

CHARLESTON -- Massey Energy Company honored the winner of its third annual Green Miner Award and related Best of Class winners for calendar year 2006 at an awards banquet on the evening of Wednesday, June 20. The Green Miner Award is awarded to the Massey group with the best environmental compliance.

Massey subsidiary Mammoth Coal Company, located in Kanawha County, was the 2006 winner of the Green Miner Award. Mammoth Coal Company President Dave Hughart accepted the award on behalf of the 200 plus members of Mammoth Coal Company. Other finalists for the award included Massey's Green Valley, Knox Creek and Sidneyoperations.

Best of Class awards were received by White Buck No. 2 Mine for Best Underground Mine, Bandmill Surface Mine for Best Surface Mine and Sidney Coal's Big Creek Processing for Best Preparation Plant. Green Valley Coal Company was presented with the Most Improved Operation award.

Massey Energy Company, headquartered in Richmond, Va., with operations in West Virginia, Kentucky and Virginia, is the fourth largest coal company in the United States based on produced coal revenue.
