There are a number of activities scheduled throughout the next three
weeks, leading up to the second Friends of Coal Bowl on September 8,
2007 in Huntington. Meetings will be held today (Friday) with the
Marshall University Athletic Director and his staff to finalize a
number of details.
The first real promotional event bringing focus to the Bowl and our
sponsorship will be a concert at Appalachian Power Park on Saturday
(August 18), featuring some leading country performers. Friends of
Coal and the Friends of Coal Bowl will be a featured part of the day's
activities as well as the regional radio advertising promoting the
event. For ticket information contact the Association or WV Radio

On Monday there is a press conference scheduled by Marshall University to bring attention to the Bowl Game and the trophy. It will be held at Joan C. Edwards Stadium and will include President Kopp, Athletic Director Bob Marcum, Coach Mark Snyder and the Association. It will emphasize the excitement the City of Huntington is demonstrating for having the game there this year.
The annual Country Roads Tailgate Party will be held Thursday evening at the Charleston Civic Center, beginning at 6:00 p.m. WCHS will do a live remote and both Coach Pruett and Coach Nehlen will be there. Food, fans, music and door prizes will bring Mountaineers and the Thundering Herd together for this great pre-game event.
On Friday (September 7) before the game a press conference with both football coaches is tentatively scheduled but the location is yet to be determined. Also on Friday evening, the traditional Friends of Coal Bowl Dinner will be held at the Pullman Plaza Hotel in Huntington with numerous legislators, state and local officials as well as many of our friends from both universities planning to attend. The evening will conclude with dessert, music and dancing sponsored by Chapman Printing, Bobby Pruett’s Steak House and Pullman Plaza Hotel.
On game day, the Association and Friends of Coal will host a large tailgate tent on the east side of Joan C. Edwards Stadium, beginning two hours before the 11;10 a.m. kickoff. You'll have to get up early to enjoy the food and your favorite beverages.
And, of course, the Second Annual Friends of Coal Bowl will feature all the pre-game hoopla, large signs, scoreboard messages, radio coverage and TV advertisements bringing attention to our industry, its accomplishments and the Friends of Coal. The trophy presentation will immediately follow the game on the field.
We are sure there will be other activities that will be planned, on short notice, as well as additional promotions of the game not yet specifically scheduled that will occur between now and Game Day. As we learn of these activities, we will notify you because the more participation we have by our people the better. It is shaping up to be a busy several weeks with lots of attention being placed on our sponsorship and the industry.
