Minnesota Bacteria Convert Exhaust Gas CO2 to Methane

United States Patent Application: 0070298478

As seen in, for one example: Arkansas Bacteria Convert Coal to Methane | Research & Development | News; it is possible, as we have several times reported, to utilize certain microorganisms, in place of catalysts, to facilitate the conversion of Coal, or synthesis gas derived from Coal, into hydrocarbons.

We instinctively recognize that the same is essentially true of Carbon Dioxide, albeit in a very indirect and energy-wasteful way, in the production of Ethanol, via the fermentation and subsequent distillation of it, from agricultural produce.

Consol 14-cent Gasoline from Coal

Process for producing high purity hydrogen from hydrocarbon gas and steam

We haven't recently cited our local Consolidation Coal Company's brilliant Coal conversion and liquefaction scientist, Everett Gorin; who went on, subsequent to Consol's acquisition by Continental Oil, as we've documented, to develop additional Coal liquefaction technology for Conoco.

In any case, from the same year Gorin was awarded, as we once earlier documented, the American Chemical Society's Henry Storch Award, for advancements in fuel chemistry,  we see that Gorin, and Consol, had established a technology for converting Coal into Gasoline, and doing so at a cost that was more than directly competitive with the then-current costs of conventional Gasoline made from petroleum.

Texaco Recycles More CO2 to Methanol and Methane

United States Patent: 4609451

As earlier reported, in: Texaco Recycles CO2 to Methanol & Methane | Research & Development | News; which provides details of: "US Patent 4,523,981 - Reducing Carbon Dioxide to Provide a Product; 1985;

Assignee: Texaco, Incorporated, NY; Abstract: A process for reducing carbon dioxide to at least one useful product ... (including) formic acid (and/or) formaldehyde (and.or) methanol (and/or) methane"; the old, familiar Texaco, prior to their assimilation by Chevron, had been at work developing technologies which, if reduced to practice, would have enabled us to put ends both to our crippling reliance on sometimes unfriendly foreign sources of oil and to our pending victimization by climate scare environmentalists, some of whose true motives, in light of evidence such as USP 4,523,981, we must now hold suspect.

Mobil 1984 Improved Diesel Fuel from Coal

United States Patent: 4447312

We've documented many times that Coal can be converted into, among other needed things, Diesel fuel.

A recent example of such reportage would be:

Germany Coal + Methane = Diesel Fuel | Research & Development | News; wherein it is seen that Methane, which can, as documented in just one instance by our earlier report of:

Chicago Recycles CO2 to Methane | Research & Development | News; be synthesized from Carbon Dioxide, can be utilized to help the conversion of Coal into Diesel fuel along.

South Africa seeks US Coal-to-Jet Fuel Patent

United States Patent Application: 0100264061

As in: Sasol's Synthetic Jet Fuel to Gain Worldwide Approval by August | Research & Development | News; wherein is contained the fascinating statement: "The world will soon be flying on coal"; we have earlier documented the development, by South Africa Synthetic Oil Limited, i.e., Sasol, of technologies which would enable the conversion of our abundant Coal into any liquid hydrocarbon we now derive from petroleum, including all sorts of fully-certified aviation fuels.

Herein, we see that Sasol has applied for a United States Patent on their process and technology for synthesizing such high-performance jet fuel, out of abundant Coal.
