More US-Funded Gulf Oil Coal Liquefaction

United States Patent: 3892654

We have lately been documenting the accomplishments of Pittsburgh's old Gulf Oil Corporation, and their Pittsburg(KS) & Midway Mining subsidiary, in the development of Coal liquefaction technology.

As we have reported, much of their CoalTL work seems to have been done under contract to, and to have been paid for by, the United States Government.

That is true of this invention, as well; confirmed both in the assignment of rights and by the following statement excerpted from the body of the text:

Korea Improves CO2 Recycling

CO2 Hydrogenation over Copper-Based Hybrid Catalysts for the Synthesis of Oxygenates - Utilization of Greenhouse Gases - ACS .

We have earlier reported on Korea's achievements in the recycling of Carbon Dioxide.

Herein, we submit a publication from Korean scientists detailing some specifics on improving the conversion of Carbon Dioxide, as we have many times documented to be feasible, into the liquid fuels, and Gasoline and plastics synthesis raw materials, Methanol and Di-Methyl Ether (DME).

This submission is only prelude to a document we find far more interesting, issued prior to this publication, which we will, in a separate dispatch to follow in coming days, report.

Pittsburgh's Gulf Oil Hydrogenates Coal with Steam

United States Patent: 3971635

We have been stating, with documentation of the fact, that the Hydrogen needed to hydrogenate Coal, which is mostly Carbon, so that resulting compounds can be more effectively used in the synthesis of liquid Hydrocarbon fuels, can be efficiently obtained, as an integral function of the Coal conversion process, through reactions of hot Coal with plain old Water.

Pittsburgh's former Gulf Oil Corporation, since absorbed into Chevron, stated that quite clearly, several decades ago, during what was, for them, as you have seen in other of our earlier reports, a remarkably productive decade for the development of Coal conversion technologies, in this United States Patent.

CO2 to Methanol is Coming

ELECTROLYSIS OF CARBON DIOXIDE IN AQUEOUS MEDIA TO CARBON MONOXIDE AND HYDROGEN FOR PRODUCTION OF METHANOL - Patent application

We have previously cited the University of Southern California's Nobel-certified genius, George Olah, and, among his co-workers, G.K. Prakash, relative to their work in developing technologies for the practical recycling of Carbon Dioxide.

We have called your attention to some of the many US patents, pertaining to Carbon conversion technologies, already issued to Olah, et. al.; and, we herein reveal that they have applied for yet another United States Patent for yet another technology to make the recovery and the recycling of Carbon Dioxide, as it emerges in the flue gases of industrial facilities, or even as it is found in the atmosphere itself, a practical reality.
