Sunlight Converts CO2 into Methane

United States Patent: 8617375

Sunlight can be used to convert Carbon Dioxide into substitute natural gas Methane.

Our apologies to you for the rather uninformative holiday greeting we used in our headline. And, our apologies to the honorable Yugi Zenitani, of Japan's Panasonic Corporation, the lead named inventor of the United States Patent we bring to you herein, disclosing yet more technology developed by Panasonic's team of accomplished scientists, wherein simple sunlight can be used to power the conversion of Carbon Dioxide, as recovered from whatever source, into a number of useful substances, including, again, frack-free substitute natural gas Methane.

We don't want to grace it with any quotes or references, but, you see a lot of ink nowadays being devoted to the concepts and plans for replacing Coal-fired electric power plants with units fired by natural gas, such schemes being fueled by the wildly-overblown shale gas phenomenon, with an unfounded mania for shale gas and it's supposed benefits itself being fueled by the many breathless news reports concerning it; news reports that seem as if they could have been drawn more from gas industry press releases than solid independent research.

Panasonic Solar CO2 to Methane

United States Patent: 8597488

It should by now, from our many previous reports documenting the fact, be accepted incontrovertibly, that, Carbon Dioxide, as it arises in only a small way, relative to some all-natural and un-taxable sources of emission, such as the Earth's inexorable processes of planetary volcanism, from our essential use of Coal in the generation of truly abundant and truly affordable electric power, is a valuable, maybe even a precious, raw material resource.

In fact, it wasn't the United States Department of Defense itself, as per the headline, but, the US Air Force, the US Army, and the US Navy who, through separate grants and contracts, supported the University of Southern California in their development of technology that uses simple Sunlight to power the conversion of Carbon Dioxide - - as is co-produced in a small way, relative to some all-natural and un-taxable sources of CO2 emission, such as the Earth's inexorable processes of planetary volcanism, from our economically essential use of Coal in the generation of truly abundant and truly affordable electric power - - into substitute, fracking-free, natural gas Methane.

West Virginia Coal Association | California July 2012 Efficient CO2 to Methanol | Research & Development; concerning: "United States Patent 8,212,088 - Efficient and Selective Chemical Recycling of Carbon Dioxide to Methanol, Dimethyl Ether and Derived Products; Date: July 3, 2012;Inventors: George Olah and G.K. Surya Prakash, CA; Assignee: University of Southern California, Los Angeles; Abstract: An efficient and environmentally beneficial method of recycling andproducing methanol from varied sources of carbon dioxide including flue gases of fossil fuel burning powerplants, industrial exhaust gases or the atmosphere itself. Converting carbon dioxide by chemical or electrochemical reduction secondary treatment to produce essentially methanol, dimethyl ether and derived products"; and:
